Nutrition after completing the treatment.

Most of the side effects related to cancer treatments in terms of nutrition disappear when the treatment ends. Occasionally, side effects such as loss of appetite, dry mouth, changes in taste or smell, swallowing difficulties, or weight changes may persist for some time. If this happens to you, talk to your cancer care team, and together, devise a plan to address the issue.

Practical tips for healthy eating after cancer

• Check with your cancer care team if you should restrict any foods or follow a specific diet.
• Ask your dietitian for assistance in creating a nutritious and balanced eating plan, which can be helpful in managing any weight fluctuations that may have arisen during cancer treatment.
• Follow a healthy eating pattern that includes nutrient-rich foods, a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, and whole grains.
• Limit or avoid the consumption of red and processed meats, sugary drinks, and highly processed foods.
• It’s best not to consume alcohol, but if you choose to, do not exceed 1 drink per day for women and 2 drinks per day for men.
